What did all those ideas have in common? (Item durability, roguelike crap deleting your characters etc.) They were all components that weren't present in the original Gloomhaven game. Mainly when they dumped a lot of the dumb ideas that were strangling this project. Things turned around for the better for a while there. Since inception this project has been hampered by unnecessary distractions and weird gimmicks that are non-representative of the product they ostensibly set out to make. You don't clean gutters to make sure your tools work before fixing the toilet. You don't build a car to get ready to build a house. No project, NO PROJECT requires you to make things that are unrelated to the actual core goal in order to get ready to make the actual project. Let me just kill this right now - Any talks about having to "make the parts" before they can make the critical components like multiplayer (which should have been a thing far earlier in development) and the campaign is a disingenuous attempt to mystify payers and players into thinking there's something they don't understand and thus their expectations are unreasonable. This project has been suffering from this issue since day one. This isn't saying they won't but there doesn't seem to be much respect or acknowledgement for their original promise to create a digital adaptation of this game within a reasonable amount of time.Īnd COVID isn't to blame. As you can see, the most dangerous thing that can happen to an Early Access project has happened: The finish date has been changed from a set time period to an unknown which is basically a free and open license for the devs to basically not deliver. It's changed a lot and a lot of people will say COVID but I wonder what the ethics are on that since money was taken with a promise to deliver by a certain time. That's their latest iteration of the roadmap.
